Tattooed Bootch.

I was going to get these on my wrists, but at the last minute I changed my mind.

Yes they are wings. Attached them are the initials of my cousin who died when I was thirteen. Wow it's been fourteen years.

His passing is where my story actually begins. I don't know how to explain it without sounding like a tortured emo teen. Everything just unfolded into these very tumultuous lessons that set the precedence for the rest of my life.

I realize my life has been a very short one thus far. I just miss him very much.

Writing Prompt from Ann Borja: "In your search for love, what meaning have you come across or have embraced?"

It fills the emptiness inside my chest. In favor of fools who enjoy it so blindly. Layers that embrace yet sting. Taking years to face itself in a mirror. A search for what we fantasize versus what we need. Hence, why the reflection is not so clear. I can never find that one song to describe it, but I desperately want to hear it.

Rules of the Drunk Clubbing Pictures

Everyone gets caught with a moded drunk clubbing picture. You got a drink in your hand. You're sweaty. You think you look cute, but you HELLA don't.

Take a look at this beauty. Exhibit A:
Photobucket
Glossy Eyes. Moded. Sweat. Moded. Pseudo "Wassup wit it Pose." Moded. Non-Flattering Angle. MODED. At this very moment I am having the time of my life, but what I did not consider is..... how will my drunk club picture look? How will this piece of art be perceived by the wide audience on this dude's picture website. It's a harsh world out there.

Ah. So I learned. Take a look at Exhibit B:
Photobucket

Tip one. Keep eyes OPEN. No matter how drunk you are keep your eyes open. Show your good side, wipe your sweat, and angle to your good and flattering side. Here's a two dollar tip, if you have a megawat smile. Use it. It hides drunk better than not showing your full glass of rum and coke in your picture.

It takes a rock to make a gem. Top Model challenge, how to not look moded in a drunk in the club picture. This should totally be a Top Model Challenge. Tyra don't know about this shiet.

Student Fashion Project

I need to write this idea down before I forget it.

The students here either pajama couture or super fab. Fitted and color coordinated, I find myself complimenting a student on their outfit at least three times a day.

Idea fashion photo project that turns into a book. Students are given a disposable camera to take fashion shots around their neighborhood or around the street. Put on their best outfit for the day. Do a photoshoot. Make a book.

Need energy and motivation to make this happen.

Tabi Tabi Sore

Last night's show was extra awesome sauce. I found myself milking extra drama into my dancing, but it was good just to express myself in that way once again. I found myself closed off and a bit distant. The show took a huge toll on my body physically and I found it hard to keep my spirits friendly and patient. I hope that my friends understand. My mind was super cluttered. I got emotional trying to absorb the whole experience, and I found myself in disbelief saying "Wow this is really happening."

My heart broke a million times before, but it didn't make that moment any easier. Awkward and tragic. I close my eyes. I move on.

Tabi Tabi. fuck. i'm so fucking sore...........

So back to the show. The art for the Tabi Tabi Po Exhibition was super dope. Here is a link to the exhibition site that explains more.

Tabi Tabi Po

Photobucket

I haven't performed with Bindlestiff in about two years. Tonight my shadow will be depicting Filipino mysticism, and I'm really excited about it. I've been out of the scene for a minute, but it feels good to be working with familiar people. We've been working with each other for so long, we have a dynamic that feels like we finish each others' sentences. If there were any collective of artists that I trust near and dear to my heart, it's these people.

I can't wait to perform. It's been an itch that I've ignored for a really long time. I hope that this experience will lead to more. The dark ages are over. I'm ready.

Below is a video of some of the work we've done to prepare for tonight's show. It looks super silly behind the screen, but it works from the audience perspective.

Hotlanta and Last of the Single Girl Travels

The past five months have been a lot of traveling and a lot of kickin it. The best part about being single is ending up in the most random places, and allowing yourself to experience new things. I went on three trips in a four month span, not exactly jet setting status, but the most I've traveled in the U.S. in a short period of time. Every one of those trips was a blast, and it helped in finding my way out of a dark time. If a friend asked me if I wanted to visit or if I wanted to come with, yes came out of my mouth before I even had a chance to blink.

Things are gonna slow down a little. Yesterday I made the decision stop some things in order to live in the present. I'm very optimistic and hopeful with way things are going. It's different to be in a place of hope versus a state of uncertainty.

Atlanta, good southern comfort. Tory our gracious host took us to great places to eat and crunk places to dance. His grandmother's salmon croquettes were a great send off. They flying biscuit restaurant's white cheddar grits were to DIE FOR. I will post more pictures when they arrive. Of course I didn't bring a camera!

Me, Nelson, Jeff, and Tory.

Children Full of Life

Children learning how to be human. The good kind of human. In college we learned a lot of social experiments on the savagedry of human behavior. In our modern society it's very clear that people have the capability to do unimaginable cruelty to one another. It's gotten to the point where good deeds are over commended, because we no long experience them.

Mr. Kanamori, a fourth grade homeroom teacher in Japan, takes an introspective approach in teaching his students empathy and compassion. He teaches them a way to be "happy" in a way that doesn't revolve around acquiring possessions or instant distractions. You learn to be happy because you are giving, and you are being supported by those around you.

This documentary brought up some interesting memories, as these students deal with issues such as death and bullying. I thought about my 5th grade classmate Billy Garcia who died when he was hit by a diesal truck. How we dealt with that as a class at the time left an imprint in my mind. As kids we learned how to bury tragedy quickly and silently. In "Children Full of Life" I finally learned what I needed to hear all these years later.

I've only given a snippet of what I've taken away from this documentary. Below is a brief article that CBC, the network that created the documentary, described about the award winning series.
