The Occupy Movement: Where it is In History, and Where the Iraq War is Not.

As the Iraq war comes to a close, I begin to wonder whether or not the young people of my generation made as much of a fuss as they should have.

Sure, there were big city protests all around the nation, but when I look on the anti-war movement of the 1960's, our protests of the Iraq war did not capture the same steam. In fact, it was pretty lackluster. And clearly not effective, considering that it was the longest war in our nation's history.

Well protesting the Iraq war was an early 2000's trend and the current Occupy movement is what deserves our attention.  Started by the Canadian activist group Adbusters, the demonstrations started on Wall Street to protest the social and financial inequality in the U.S. The Occupy movement was overwhelmingly peaceful, as thousands of protesters have set up camp in front of major corporations, but it has been a nuisance to every resident in every financial district in America. As it continues to grow in every major city in the U.S., and it's thousands of occupants have been called "Dirty Hippies." Now where have we heard that term before?

Reinventing Feminism: OWN's Miss Representation

I absolutely loved this documentary. Miss Representation was featured on the OWN network this past weekend, and I was sincerely moved and inspired.

When I was interviewed for The Pioneer Online one of the questions that was asked was "Why do you feel like PMSTA's work is important?"

My answer was, because if you look at the media, the message that is out there is that women are to be marketed for sex only.

Miss Representation gives a very well researched answer of why that is. The choices of the modern day woman is being shaped by media and television, and unfortunately young girls are falling victim to more exploitation that the generation before.

It's still widely believed that there is no longer a glass ceiling for women. This is a horrible misperception, and it makes me depressed that we have a long way to go.

Before the men decide to clutch their balls, I encourage them to watch this. We are a world that is expanding and not shrinking, and a woman's safety and healthy continues to be compromised. Women in leadership have not been embraced. This makes me very sad.

There couldn't have been a harder time for us to open this show. For the first time in my life I had to write a tribute for a friend that passed, and include it into our program.

The title "Death of a Player" brought a lot of irony, but E. wouldn't mind :) I think he liked the title.

The show is getting a lot of positive reviews. Our artistic peers and new folks coming to the theater for the first time, have given us outstanding feedback on the writing and acting. I couldn't be any happier.

When other writers come up to me telling me they loved my piece, it's a strange feeling. Most of my fellow artists at Bindlestiff know me as a dancer, and now some want to collaborate on future writing projects.  WOW!

It's flattering yet humbling... I'm still chasing a dream, but at least with this production I'm having a taste of it.  I've established myself as a writer. As I approach 30, my identity is finally coming full circle. I'm grateful.

Below is the list of people that have reviewed and promoted our show.  Thank you... all of you.

It's Finally Opening Tonight: Thank the F*cking Lord

Colors.

When someone suddenly dies... everything is just a different color.

The colors that you loved and hated... are obsolete, and I'm running trying to find new colors to love.

I want them all to be his favorite colors. They are the only colors that matter.

I only want to listen to his favorite music. I only want to see people wearing his clothes.

From black hoodies to black shorts, from SF giants hats to big tummies....

I want to be a part of anything that brings him back to this earth. But, I am too grown to be chasing a ghost.

So I wake up and go to sleep. Sleep and then wake up. Everything will make sense again, and I will have a new color to love.
